Things You Must Do When Pitching Investors

Published

Pitching investors

Pitching investors will inevitably be a path many entrepreneurs will tread. Pitching is not just for entrepreneurs looking for money. Most of us at different points in our lives have experienced pitching for a proposal we want to happen. Whether it is getting mom to buy us tickets to a band’s concert or getting approval for a loan, a successful pitch is composed of the same elements. Here are points to follow to get that perfect pitch.

Get To The Point Quickly

Attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, especially when pitching investors. This is especially true for the new generation who are used to everything on-demand. Many things are becoming minimal, whether it is blogs, the news report, or websites. So as not to lose their attention, get to your point quickly and succinctly. Use Harvard’s Elevator Pitch Builder which gives you a minute to explain yourself, your goals and your business. Also, make sure your presentation is dynamic and lively. This article here teaches you everything you need to know about making that presentation go wild.

Use Less Slides When Pitching Investors

Since attention is getting shorter and you need to get to the point quickly, don’t use too many slides. Limit your slides to 10 if possible. The fewer slides you use, the quicker your presentation will be, which will keep you from going astray. Use downloadable ready-made slide decks.

Establish A Need

The best products that sell are those that are needed. When giving a presentation always answer the question “What problem does that solve?”. Convince the audience that there is a need by giving them a problem and telling them that you have the solution.

Message Map

For complex pitches, use the message map, a tool that will help you convey your idea simply and quickly. It helps explain an idea visually, all in one page in just 15 seconds. It involves a Twitter friendly headline, 3 benefits that support the headline and reinforcement of the 3 benefits.

Multi-Level Structure

Scott Berkun, author of How to Pitch Your Idea, recommends using 3 levels for your pitch: 5 seconds to explain your idea in one sentence, 30 seconds to explain to the audience how to achieve your plan. Once they understand this, use 5 minutes to broaden it so that they can get a clearer idea of what you’re proposing.

Competitive Advantage

Identify who your competition is and tell the audience your competitive advantage. Show them why your idea or product is better than what your competitor is offering. It is also a good idea to tell the audience who the potential entrants are and what you’re doing to shield against them.

Catchphrase

Include a catchphrase when pitching a product. The Macbook Air for example was “the world’s thinnest notebook” when first introduced. A catchphrase will help people and the audiences remember your product. Developing a good catch phrase is a huge part of developing your brand’s message. Learn more on reinforcing your brand here.

The Team

Listeners and investors like to know that you have a good solid team behind you. When pitching investors, make sure you also show them confidence by introducing your team. You can introduce them at the beginning or end of your pitch. Don’t go into every single detail about them. Focus on the highs and relevant accomplishments of team members. Building a dream team is critical for your success, check this article out to learn how to build that dream team!

Know When To Stop Selling

Learn to read the signs on when to stop selling. Pitching investors doesn’t always mean you have to be constantly selling the whole time. A good salesperson knows when the idea has hit home. When you continue to talk beyond this point you could say something that could reverse the positive direction of the pitch. To learn more about selling, check out this article here.

Don’t Beg

There is a fine line between showing passion for your idea and begging listeners to like it. A little nervousness is expected but adopting an attitude of begging does not serve well. If you feel that your idea has merit, pitch like you believe in it without sounding arrogant or obnoxious. Hone your pitching skills by watching shows like Shark Tank or Dragon’s Den.

Deliver a pitch that instills confidence in your team and communicate your idea with clarity. If you are able to do this, then you are on your way to a successful pitch.

Increase Business During The Holiday Season

Published

on

holiday season

The holidays are quickly approaching and when running a business there is plenty to do to get ready. The holiday season is a busy time for shopping, gift giving, and should be a busy time for sales in your business. This is the time to ramp up with marketing in creative ways because of the influx of sales that will be coming your way. Making sure that your business is prepped for the return of loyal customers and for any new customers that may come your way will be vital. Here are some tips to prepare your business ahead of time for the holiday season.

Make sure your information is up-to-date

During the holiday sales rush, especially during Black Friday and Christmas you may see an influx of new customers. In order to prepare for this you must make sure that your information is up-to-date. Your website must have accurate contact information on it and your social media must be customer appropriate. If you have an office or location is the address on the website correct? You do not want to risk losing out on potential business because of careless errors or typos that could quickly make the customer lose interest. If someone is taking time to visit your website, making yourself easily accessible takes the hassle off of the customer.

Holiday Promotions

It never hurts to treat your current and new customers to discounts or promotions. In fact, this is an effective way to get customers excited about what is to come and gives incentive to loyal customers to return. Find creative ways to promote the deals through social media, giveaways, or contests so that it keeps people engaged. This will help your sales and also potentially bring a new wave of clients through the doors. If you have loyalty or rewards programs, modifying them during the holidays is a good idea, even if you need to offer bigger rewards or discounts.

Update your website

Many people want to avoid going out to stores during the holidays and do the majority of their shopping online. This growing trend can be an advantage for you if you have a functional, optimized, updated website. If you sell products or services online you need to have your website prepared for traffic. There are a number of factors that need to be in place before your website is ready. Your images should be high quality and related to the products, your content should be optimized for SEO, and your inventory should be up to date. You should be paying close attention to what items are available so that you can quickly re-stock what sells out. Having deals for online shopping customers only is another way to present incentives to customers and bring traffic to the website.

Create a gift guide

Creating a gift guide is a fun way to get customers excited about your products. The holidays are the time that people are searching extensively for what to buy their loved ones. There are even holiday gift guides for pet owners! In this case, a gift guide is a great way to influence those decisions. Getting a spot in the gift guides of influential websites and blogs can be huge for your brand’s marketing campaign! In some cases you may have to pay for this promotion, but in many cases it can be earned through general interest in your product.

Engage on social media

It is great to have a holiday gift guide, an up-to-date website, and marketing campaign but without an audience these things are pointless. If you have a brand that has been running for awhile the rise of social media should be one of the biggest outlets that you use for promotion. Your campaign cannot market itself, and social media is key for expanding your reach in a fast way. A creative visual campaign on social media can go viral and cause your business to blow up in hours. Take advantage of the direct connection to customers and engage your base while humanizing your brand.

The holiday season is a festive time and can be a great time for your business if you make sure that all of these things are in order, this holiday season can be a successful one for your business. Some things to remember: reach out on social media even when you are not in promotion mode, create a visual campaign, promotions and loyalty rewards programs go a long way, and make sure your website is updated. If your holiday sales season goes great that can snowball into bigger and better things for the rest of the year and the new year.

Using Facebook Ads To Double Your Business

Published

on

facebook ads

As a business owner, you know how challenging getting new customers can be. There are so many rabbit holes you can find yourself falling into – Google AdWords, Amazon ads, Bing ads, etc. Yet, these ads are expensive and do not even yield results at times. Facebook has over 3 Billion people on the planet that are on this social media platform. Imagine having a place the size of India and China at your fingertips to market. Facebook is constantly trying to acquire new members from around the world on the Internet to get on this mega social media platform, since only 40% of the world is on the internet. Facebook ads can take your business to the next step.

Over A Billion People To Choose From.

You can find your true prospective client, especially if you know your customer avatar to a tee. Most ads out there are not targeting specific demographics that are your customer. You need ads that are very specific at targeting key metrics, that it’s the customer that wants to buy your product.

Test Your Product Or Service In The Marketplace

There is an easy way to spend that same money to test out your business and see what works. You can test the market and gauge interest by advertising your product/service cheaply through Facebook Ads.  All you need to do is set the Facebook Ads spend Daily Limit and let it run. You won’t have to spend a whole lot of money in developing a marketing test budget, it’s easy and cheaper than hiring a company to conduct actual surveys. Facebook Ads are cheaper than your lunch, you can run an ad for less than 10 dollars/day.

You Can Target Your Customer

Using a particular region or location is huge if your service is specific to a certain demographic. If you know your customer is at a specific age group then there is no need to advertise a car product to a teenager. Targeting gender is another tactic. Your product/service can be marketed towards either men or women. Interests are the huge selling point that Facebook has as a marketer. Facebook does a good job with their algorithms to know what their users like. They keep track with the pages you like, the videos that you watch, and the posts that you read. It’s amazing how many different interests exists on the platform that you can go after, like targeting homeowners or a specific profession, since a job title is placed on the profile. You can market to doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.

Retargeting

Facebook has this interesting and unique tool called a pixel. It will allow you to retarget those individuals that were not initially sure about your primary offer. You’ve been that individual for sure, you saw an offering and wanted to see more about it. However, you then clicked onto their marketing funnel and saw that maybe it wasn’t the perfect time for buying it. Target those individuals that once landed on your page. You need to set up this pixel of code on your marketing funnel, the pixel will learn what individuals clicked on and what part of your marketing funnel they are on. You can then reset targeting ads for pennies on the dollar to re-advertise to those individuals that were on your marketing funnel, but never bought your product or service. The pixel is an amazing tool that is able to retarget all those potential buyers that come in and have engaged interest in your product. Using the pixel to retarget those non-initially buying customers can easily make for higher conversions for your product/service for your business. Imagine how many conversions are being lost by using other ads like super expensive Google AdSense or Yelp Ads.

Track Conversions And Performance

Facebook does a wonderful job of showing you how many clicks that you have and the cost per click ratios of your ads currently to see how you can really change your copy to make sure that you have a lead. You must split test those ads to make sure that your advertising is on point and figure out what ads really do work well for your campaign that you have set. Setting up a marketing funnel is key when running Facebook Ads. Make sure to use a marketing funnel like Lead Pages or Click Funnels to ensure you are getting those leads and demographics, not just hoping the customer will just land on your page to mysteriously make a purchase. I can’t say how many times that I’ve run into clients that have an amazing product, but just want the consumer to mysteriously run into their page offering.

What we need to do is ease the customer into the purchase. It’d be great to have a world where customer just sees it and buys it. The premise is that you need to show the customer what the problem that you are trying to solve and educate the customer more on how your product is the solution.

Facebook Ads are the hidden gem of 2017 that are efficient, target a demographic, and are cheaper than your lunch. Facebook Ads and a strong marketing funnel will double your profits and conversions to lead towards an amazing business year for 2017.

Memobottle Raises Over $30,000 On Kickstarter In Under 10 Hours

Published

Memobottle

Jesse Leeworthy and Jonathan Byrt, the entrepreneurs behind Memobottle, designed a reusable plastic water bottle with a mission to decrease the use of disposable plastic water bottles and create a more sustainable society. Growing up in Melbourne, Australia they often saw heaps of disposable water bottles littering the beach. They decided to create a beautiful and reusable alternative to these disposable bottles. Their creations feature stylish design and durable construction to make them a solid accessory for everyday use.

The Memobottle features a flat, flask-like design that fits in pockets, bags, and purses. The bottles are made of durable Tritan plastic, are BPA free, and dishwasher friendly. They are suitable for hot or cold liquids, and are freezer safe. Coming in three different sizes, Memobottle is a convenient and sustainable alternative to plastic water bottles. Their Kickstarter campaign’s success enabled them to sell the bottles in two new sizes. The slim Memobottle is a tall, elegant addition to a bag or purse. It holds 15 fluid ounces of water. The A7 Memobottle is the most compact. It holds 6 ounces of water and is perfect for kids and people on the go. Their existing A5 bottle holds 25 fl oz and retails for $36.

Memobottle also has fun accessories like desk stands, lids, wrist straps and cases. Desk stands come in two dimensions and are copper plated. Lids come in matte black, copper, and stainless steel. Wrist straps and cases are made of leather.

Their Kickstarter campaign is donating 1% of the money to a charity called water.org that seeks to increase access to clean drinking water in parts of the developing world. 1 in 9 people do not  have access to clean drinking water, and in developing countries without access to safe water and sanitation, women and girls spend an average of 6 hours a day collecting water. They are unable to attend school and stay trapped in a cycle of poverty. Water.org provides small loans to these families to enable them to access water easily and break the cycle of poverty.

The mission, philosophy, and high quality products have made the Memobottle Kickstarter a resounding success with it raising over $45,000 of its initial $30,000 goal in just a few hours.
